Its source is at Langstrothdale Chase in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and flows through Kettlewell, Grassington, Bolton Abbey, Addingham, Ilkley, Burley in Wharfedale, Otley, Wetherby, Tadcaster, then flows into the River Ouse near Cawood. ** The Wharfe has a reputation of being very dangerous, in that people have regularly been drowned while swimming in it. The 72-miles Dales Way from Ilkley to Lake Windermere begins at the Old Bridge over the River Wharfe in Riverside Gardens. The Dales Way passes through the Yorkshire Dales National Park and joins the Pennine Way before crossing East Cumbria and entering the Lake District National Park.
